Cybersecurity professionals and researchers are continually challenged by the rapid pace at which new cyber threats and defense techniques emerge. Traditional channels for information dissemination, such as academic publications or industry reports, often lag behind real-time discussions happening on social media platforms. There is a critical need for tools and methodologies that can monitor and analyze social media content to detect trends in cyber defense topics as they emerge. This research seeks to fill that gap by leveraging data from Reddit and YouTube to identify emerging themes, tools, and threats in the field of cybersecurity.

Objectives

• Develop a Framework for Social Media Analysis: Build a robust framework to collect, process, and analyze data from a social media content such as Reddit or YouTube, focusing on cybersecurity discussions.
• Identify Trending Cyber Defense Topics: Utilize Natural Language Processing (NLP) and sentiment analysis techniques to identify trending topics, emerging threats, and new defense strategies being discussed on social media.
• Monitor Cybersecurity Communities for Emerging Threats: Track key cybersecurity subreddits, YouTube channels, and comment sections to monitor discussions on potential threats and new vulnerabilities.
• Write a research paper detailing data processing, methodologies, and evaluation results to disseminate the findings.

Requirements

• Strong Interest in Cybersecurity and Defense Topics
• Experience in Data Science, NLP or/and AI techniques
• Experience in working with social media contents
• Experience in at least one programming language (e.g.,Python)
• Strong problem solving and analytics skills
• Mindset to learn new skills
